As summer comes to a close, military families across the globe are relocating to new installations. With that transition requirement comes a great deal of challenges faced by military families with school-age children. This means new houses, new neighborhoods and new friends. Families who have a child with special needs require new physicians, new service providers, new environments compounded on top of the new experiences faced by typical families. Starting back to school prepared for change is extremely vital to a successful experience when a child with special needs is involved. Why? It is extremely important for military families with special needs to adjust to new routines, new people and new procedures when starting back to school. The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) is proud to support all military children starting back to school this year. Military families understand the importance of forming connections and partnerships with those who share similar experiences. Those military families who have a family member with a special need understand this compounding importance as well. In an effort to reach families and provide resources that are relevant to their experiences, the MCEC has teamed with Exceptional Parent (EP) Magazine to provide members of the Coalition a complimentary one year membership to the digital magazine. Also, EP subscribers will be given a one year membership to the MCEC. This reciprocal partnership is just an example of how the organizations such as EP Magazine and the MCEC have joined forces to support military families who have children with special needs. This article discusses the importance of partnerships and support networks for military children with special needs.
