Young People's Perceptions of Mental Health.
Armstrong, Claire; Hill, Malcolm; Secker, Jenny
Children & Society, v14 n1 p60-72 Feb 2000
Examined 12- to 14-year-olds' understanding of mental health and illness, responses to negative feelings, and perceived differences between themselves and adults. Found that the term "mental health" was little understood. Relationships with family and friends were considered a positive influence. Youth, especially boys, reported unsophisticated mechanisms for responding to negative feelings and trivialized their problems in comparison to adults. (Author/KB)
