This curriculum guide outlines three credits of study, one credit for each of the grade levels 10, 11, and 12. Intended as an optional study area, the program provides awareness and exploration for those students who aspire to postsecondary study and introduces skills to those who wish to explore trades and technologies in employment after school. Each level has core and option modules that offer flexibility. Introductory materials include an overview, information on implementation, and goals and objectives. Power Mechanics (PM) 101 has 11 modules: orientation and safety, tools, fasteners and gaskets, manuals, theory of engine operation, lubrication systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, basic electrical system, basic ignition system, and wheels, hubs, and tires. PM 201 has 11 modules: orientation and safety, engine types, engine test and measurement, ignition systems--tune-up, fuel systems, brake system, steering system, suspension and front end alignment, drive train, heating and air conditioning, and engine rebuilding. PM 301 has nine modules: orientation and safety, electrical systems, exhaust systems, automatic transmissions, emission controls, ignition scope analysis, instruments and accessories, engine rebuilding, and heating and air conditioning. Each module has these components: major objective, student objectives, teachers' notes and suggested activities, and suggested materials. Appended are a four-page chart correlating recommended material to module topics and five pages of references. (YLB)
