The study addressed the problem of campus safety and the extent to which faculty and administrators are aware of institutional security policies. Further, the research compared perceptions of administrators and faculty regarding faculty awareness of and involvement in campus safety policy initiatives. The research sought to determine if the perceptions of these two entities, faculty and administrators, regarding faculty knowledge of and involvement in campus safety initiatives are congruent. Students interact with faculty more consistently and frequently than any other group of campus employees. For this reason faculty awareness of breaches in safety and procedures for addressing them is critical to ensuring immediate and appropriate responses. Theoretical bases for the study included Chaos and Complexity theory and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Using case study methodology, the research was conducted in three phases at a large state university in a southeastern state; a document analyses of campus safety policies, focus groups of faculty and interviews with key administrators.
