Dickstein, Susan; St. Andre, Martin; Sameroff, Arnold; Seifer, Ronald; Schiller, Masha
Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development, v64 n2 p84-104 1999
Investigated differences in family narratives between mothers with and those without current depressive symptoms as an indicator of family functioning. Found that Family Narrative Consortium measures of narrative coherence distinguished level of symptom severity. Found that more coherent narratives were associated with marital satisfaction, healthier family functioning, and family interaction. Found no significant associations between narratives and child outcomes. (JPB)
