This curriculum guide, one of six modules keyed to the building maintenance competency profile developed by industry and education professionals, provides materials for two units on grounds maintenance equipment and procedures. The first unit deals with grounds maintenance equipment and includes the following lessons: safety; changing oil/filter and servicing breather; ignition systems; basic maintenance; fuels; and air filter and cooling systems. In the second unit, on grounds maintenance procedures, are the following lessons: mow and trim grass; pruning trees, shrubs, and vines; seeding/sodding grasses; mix, apply, and store fertilizer; weed control; and mix, apply, and store pesticides. Each lesson includes some or all of the following color-coded components: performance objectives, information sheets, transparency masters, handouts, assignment sheets, job sheets, lesson tests, and answer key.
