As a Program Director, every day requires decisions regarding children, parents, extended families, what curriculum to use, and of course, managing the finances. Making the day-to-day decisions and ensuring the overall health, safety, and well-being of each child served by the Yakama Nation Head Start is made easier by continually reflecting on the impact Head Start has had on her, her family, and the reservation community. Head Start is important because it supports the healthy development of young children who will be the next leaders. Children are educators, for they continue to teach laughter, joy, and the value of sharing and friendship. Children help educators understand what a good person is and what they can do for others. The time to support a young child's development into a healthy adult is right now. The author always wonders what life would be like for her without Head Start.
