The Rehabilitation of Adolescents in a Medical and Preventive Treatment Facility
Cherkasova, I.
Russian Education and Society, v50 n4 p83-89 Apr 2008
The author discusses the weaknesses of medical and preventive treatment facilities (MPTFs) that provide specialized medical assistance to an increasing number of youth with complex psychophysical impairments. Maintaining that substantial improvement of the effectiveness of rehabilitation measures for adolescents in an MPTF is possible by creating prerequisites for a unified educational space in which every youngster will be able to receive the necessary social and pedagogical help, by ensuring that the rehabilitation process is founded on a solid scientific and methodological base, and by active parental involvement in this process, the author describes three basic and interconnected building blocks upon which an MPTF model should be based: (1) a theoretical and methodological block; (2) a psychological and pedagogical block; and (3) a technological block. The distinguishing feature of such a model is the interdisciplinary influence of social teachers, psychologists, correctional work specialists, upbringers, schoolteachers, and medical personnel.
