For the purpose of promoting international cooperation in mathematics, physics, and chemistry teaching research, this first yearbook of the Finnish Association of Mathematics and Science Education Research contains articles of recent research on mathematics teaching. The contents consist of five articles in English, two in German, and one thesis summary. Topics addressed include: (1) the position of mathematics in the school system; (2) mathematics curriculum reform in Scandinavia; (3) longitudinal study of the development of mathematical thought processes and strategies; (4) research on cognitive styles; (5) multiplication skills among German students; (6) mathematical knowledge of Finnish teacher trainees; and (7) application of logistic test models to mathematics tests. Biographic notes of the contributing authors are also included. (ML)
