Career Education, Career Guidance and Occupational Competence.
Hartz, John D., Ed.; And Others
Designed to be used by university instructional staff in developing/inaugurating a career development course or program for preservice training, this guide includes background materials and other information appropriate for use in preservice preparation of teachers and counselors at either the undergraduate or graduate levels. The materials are organized in three major parts: work in America; career and vocational development; and career development programming. Each part is preceded by an introduction outlining its content, purposes, and limitations. Part one includes two instructional units: work and the individual, and work and society. Part two consists of three instructional units: vocational development theory; sex role stereotyping and career development; and factors influencing individual career development. Part three contains five parts which focus on background issues in career development programming, career education, career guidance, career placement, and career program resources. Each part contains topical units which have lesson plans, learning activities, support materials, and readings. A companion publication (see related note), which provides an alphabetical listing of references and resource materials, is also available. (BM)
