Technology education is not just about things, systems, and processes. It can also be about history, people, technological change, and impacts on society. In this design challenge, one uses technology education principles and ideas to convert an old factory into a museum and learning center. The challenge with this historical resource is to think through and develop plans in four areas: (1) Educate the public about microwave oven technology development and use; (2) Perform ongoing historical research; (3) Hire the right people to make the facility come to life; and (4) Maintain and keep the facility in good operating order, including creating and maintaining an annual budget.
