De La Salle Vocational Supportive Life Skills Learning Program Off Campus. Operational Manual.
Gaus, Charles, Ed.
Serving as a course planning guide and field aide, this handbook describes the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the De La Salle Vocational off-campus community-based day treatment center designed to effect the reshaping of basic values and attitudes of youngsters who are identified by the courts as maladjusted. Separate sections explain the objectives and activities of the stress/challenge, service learning, adventure learning, and community-based experiential learning courses. Six sections outline policies and procedures which incorporate appropriate educational, legal, practical, and financial considerations. The policies/procedures sections are as follows: (1) student/parent course preparation (registration, medical history, consent to emergency medical treatment, parent information bulletin, clothing and equipment list, risk/hazard letter, expectation sheet, review of letter, preparation interview, equipment sign-out); (2) emergencies (accident reporting, medical care); (3) academics (course file, course log, course credit, report cards, awarding course credit, student evaluation); (4) finances (projected budget, purchase orders, check request, cash purchases and accounting for cash, actual expense recording, receipt accountability, compensation time); (5) student management (search of student property, written warnings, sending a student home, student runaways, free time, student money on courses, radios, cigarettes, tokens, hall passes); and (6) logistics (starting time, staff sign-in sheet, box lunches, final notification, transportation, off-campus check list). The handbook's final section concerns evaluation (final report, instructor evaluation). Appendices contain 20 sample forms. (NEC)
