The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between Dominican and Puerto Rican students' learning style. Findings of the study demonstrated differences between the learning preferences of Dominican and Puerto Rican students in the elements of Motivation (t = 2.846, p = 0.005), Several Ways of Learning (t = 2.351, p = 0.020), and Tactile (t = 3.469; p = 0.001). Findings from this study suggest that students' country of origin may be related to their preferences in learning styles. Although other factors should be considered in developing effective learning strategies, country of origin must be an important factor in determining individuals' learning styles (Jalali, 1988; Sanchez, 1996). Nevertheless, to develop learning strategies gear to support the academic performance of Latino students in higher education, further research must explore the relationship between Latino's learning styles in regard to their age, gender, socioeconomic status, level of command of the English language as well as their educational level.
