A Correlation Analysis of the Relationship between Research Administrators at Predominately Undergraduate Institutions and Faculty Funding for Undergraduate Research
Waite, Joann
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Gonzaga University
The National Science Foundation data provided the necessary information for the investigation into the top 45 funded predominately undergraduate institutions. These funded institutions sponsored research office staff members were sent surveys regarding the servant leadership characteristics of their managers. The Results showed two areas of the eight servant leader characteristics, stewardship and standing back did have significant correlations to the number of awards and submissions. The results of the survey are not conclusive as research administrators, like other members of any group or organization, mature and develop over time. Also, at the time of this study, federal funding opportunities for PUIs had seen an increase over the past 10 years, but often the tenure and promotion requirements for PUI faculty do not include grant proposal writing which may influence the number of grants and contracts submitted by faculty at PUIs and the findings are not generalizable.
