Hispanic-Serving Institutions and the Struggle for Cognitive Justice
Garcia, Herman S.
Journal of Latinos and Education, v11 n3 p195-200 2012
Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) colleges and universities were initiated as an enterprise for investing in the academy as a way to provide opportunities for Latin@ students. However, HSIs in colleges and universities have had measured success in that significant numbers of Latin@ students continue to leave campuses with unfinished business. An inviting campus climate with well-prepared mentors, insightful administrators, and willing-to-help role models who are able to emphasize an education integrated with cultural funds could arguably augment the academic and social college lives of Latin@ students.
