Landscapes: A Guide to the Landforms and Ecology of Southern Saskatchewan. Reference Manual
Rowe, J. Stan
A landscape entails more than just a landform. It includes the associated local climates and plant communities. Outlined in a brochure is a resource kit designed to provide information and audiovisual materials to teachers interested in conducting studies in the landscape ecology of Southern Saskatchewan. Two of the items described in the brochure are included as part of this entry. The first is a reference manual about Saskatchewan landscapes, their use, misuse, and ecology. Following a general introduction, Chapter II emphasizes the care of the biosphere by identifying landscapes as complex ecological systems that must be understood before they can be managed. Chapter III describes common landforms of the province, their origins, and characteristics. Chapter IV reemphasizes the theme of "earth care" by elaborating upon the complex relationships among different components of the landscape and relationships among a system of landscapes. Chapter V addresses land use patterns and issues. Not included are seven audiovisual programs on different landscape types and seven colored posters. (DC)
