Presented at a 2-day seminar at the School of Education, University of New South Wales, Australia, this paper reviews theories and research findings concerning the development of children's sense of justice. Part I of the paper briefly discusses Jean Piaget's and Lawrence Kohlberg's theories concerning the development of children's moral judgments, as well as research findings on the type of social environment which promotes the development of children's sense of justice. Part II outlines some limitations of Kohlberg's theory of moral development as it relates to women. Descriptions of Kohlberg's moral development stages, and Giligan's (1977) conception of the development of women's moral judgments are included in appendices. (Author/MP)
