Taking "From Scratch" out of Problem Solving
Brown, Wayne
EDUCAUSE Quarterly, v30 n4 p60-62 2007
Solving problems and creating processes and procedures from the ground up has long been part of the IT department's way of operating. IT staffs will continue to encounter new problems to solve and new technologies to be implemented. They also must involve their constituents in the creation of solutions. Nonetheless, for many issues they no longer need to recreate solutions. In this article, the author discusses the use of four tools--CobiT, EDUCAUSE/ECAR, ITIL, and Gartner--in solving IT problems. If used properly, these tools can keep IT departments from always having to start from scratch, enabling them to create solutions effectively and efficiently.
