deKieffer International Fellowship Award Receives Endowment
Cornell, Dick
TechTrends: Linking Research and Practice to Improve Learning, v53 n3 p22-24 May 2009
The AECT International Division held its 22nd annual dinner and auction on November 6, 2008 in Orlando, Florida. During this event it was announced that the "ect" Foundation is now the recipient of a $10,000 endowment intended to further enhance the annual monetary award of the Robert E. deKieffer International Fellowship Award. The gift was made possible through the generosity of Mrs. Ayano Kishida, the mother of Dr. deKieffer's daughter-in-law, Nancy. Mrs. Kishida bequeathed $10,000 to not only continue support of the annual deKieffer International Award of $200 but to increase it. She, like her beloved husband, was dedicated to helping others. The Robert deKieffer International Fellowship Award is presented to an individual in recognition of his/her professional leadership in the field of educational communications and technology in a foreign country. The Robert E. deKieffer International Fellowship, established in the 1980s, recognizes the work of AECT internationally-based members who conduct innovative projects or provide exemplary services to their peers. The receipt of this award receives a framed certificate and a $200 cash award. At the request of Mrs. Kishida, Nancy Kishida deKieffer, and Donald deKieffer, an additional amount will be added to the $200 normally awarded. The 2009 award will be given during the awards ceremony at the annual International Dinner and Auction at the 2009 AECT convention in Louisville, Kentucky. In this article, the author profiles Robert deKieffer and explains the connection between deKieffer, international leadership, the international auction, and the International Council for Educational Media (ICEM).
