Entrepreneurship in Public Education
McFadden, Brett W.
Leadership, v42 n5 p22-24 May-Jun 2013
The private sector is more often viewed as the realm that is cutting-edge and creative, not the public sector. But this thinking is more myth than fact. There are countless examples of private sector entities that become stagnant and eventually fail. The reality is that no particular sector has a lock on being innovative and entrepreneurial. These are leadership traits that are apt in almost every aspect of life--professional and personal. Being innovative and looking for opportunities is first and foremost a state of mind and mode of operation. It is not isolated to business matters, operational protocols or instructional practices. Instead, entrepreneurialism is ingrained into one's leadership styles and how one views circumstances, challenges and relationships. This article discusses steps to developing innovative leadership characteristics.
