This yearbook on innovative learning strategies in colleges is divided into four parts. "Part I: Description of Program Models" contains descriptions of an alternative learning center at Pima Community College, Tucson, Arizona; a program combining technology with humanism at El Camino College, Torrance, California; the developmental studies program at Kearney State College, Kearney, Nebraska; and a discussion of a competency packet on critical reading from North Shore Community College. "Part II: Application of Successful Teaching Strategies" contains articles concerning becoming testwise, peer tutoring for study skills, a modification of SQ3R as a strategy for test taking, piggybacking reading and study skills onto college courses, stimulating self-observation for improvement in reading, and tension control as a key to reading efficiency. "Part III: Samples of Practice Material for Instruction, Diagnosis, Evaluation, Record Keeping, Publicity or Public Relations" contains descriptions of a diagnostic prescriptive cataloguing system for laboratory materials, an audiotape adaptation of a phonics test, and an individualized instructional sequence for English as a Second Language students. "Part IV: Reports of Research--Successful or Not" contains three reports concerning college reading courses and instruction. (MKM)
