Industry Talks the Talk and Walks the Walk
Lewis, C. Deanna
Techniques: Connecting Education and Careers (J3), v83 n6 p30-34 Sep 2008
Home Builders Institute (HBI), the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), is dedicated to the advancement and enrichment of education and training programs serving the needs of the building industry. For more than 30 years, HBI has trained skilled workers in residential construction, promoted the industry as a career, and helped the NAHB membership address its need for qualified employees. HBI recognized the importance of "getting the word out" to students and their influencers about career awareness and exploration at all career levels of the industry. Thus the "Make It Happen" campaign was born in 2005. This article describes the implementation of the "Make It Happen" careers campaign initiative and describes the materials that have been developed to explore the home building industry as a viable career option.
