Jiang, Yongfeng; Li, Yuan – International Journal of Information and Communication Technology Education, 2022
This paper has designed a professional and practical SIMD computer mathematical model based on the SIMD physical machine model combined with the variable addition method. Furthermore, the model is applied in image collection, processing, and display operations, and a SIMD data parallel image processing system is finally established by absorbing…

Pei, Bo; Xing, Wanli; Lee, Hee-Sun – British Journal of Educational Technology, 2019
Science classes should support students' development of scientific argumentation. While previous studies have analyzed argumentative texts, they have overlooked the ways in which other types of representations, including images, affect the production of such texts. In addition, studies into the use of visual images in science education have…

Gelir, Ali; Kocaman, Merve; Pekacar, Ilgim – Physics Education, 2019
In conventional e/m experiments performed in undergraduate laboratories, generally a simple mechanical ruler is used to measure the radius of the circular trajectory of the electrons. But, the measurement error in this technique is mostly big and varies from one student to another. As an alternative to a mechanical ruler, we proposed a more…

Singh, Sushil Kumar; Lalit, Khushi; Kaur, Kawaljeet; Kaur, Savinder – Physics Education, 2021
We present a computer-based experiment that simulates the accretion process and generates fluffy aggregates with fractal nature. The Box Counting is performed without the aid of an image processing tool by using the coordinate information of the constituents of the aggregate. A simple algorithm to create aggregate and calculate box-dimension will…

Aruta, John A.; Schembari, N. Paul – Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice, 2020
We describe the results of a master's thesis in malware detection and discuss the connection to the learning goals of the project. As part of the thesis, we studied obfuscation of malware, conversion of files into images, image processing, and machine learning, a process of benefit to both the student and faculty. Malware detection becomes…

Pirbhai, M. – Physics Education, 2020
Measuring the "e/m" ratio is a classic experiment in the physics curriculum. We show that smartphones can reliably measure the magnetic field strengths involved. Moreover, phone cameras and the image-processing software Tracker can make determining the charge-to-mass ratio of the electron more accurate.

Sourajit Ghosh; Md. Sarwar Kamal; Linkon Chowdhury; Biswarup Neogi; Nilanjan Dey; Robert Simon Sherratt – Education and Information Technologies, 2024
Students are the future of a nation. Personalizing student interests in higher education courses is one of the biggest challenges in higher education. Various AI and ML approaches have been used to study student behaviour. Existing AI and ML algorithms are used to identify features for various fields, such as behavioural analysis, economic…

Gerják, István – Acta Didactica Napocensia, 2017
Learning computer programming for students of the age of 14-18 is difficult and requires endurance and engagement. Being familiar with the syntax of a computer language and writing programs in it are challenges for youngsters, not to mention that understanding algorithms is also a big challenge. To help students in the learning process, teachers…

Ozdemir, Durmus; Ugur, Mehmet Emin – Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education, 2021
The aim of this study is to present a model proposal on determining the student participation rate in synchronous courses given in Learning Management Systems (LMS). Especially in situations where equal opportunities cannot be provided or opportunities are limited, distance education provides benefits for learning anytime and anywhere (ubiquitous…

Huck-Iriart, Cristia´n; De-Candia, Ariel; Rodriguez, Javier; Rinaldi, Carlos – Journal of Chemical Education, 2016
In this work, we described an image processing procedure for the measurement of surface tension of the air-liquid interface using isothermal capillary action. The experiment, designed for an undergraduate course, is based on the analysis of a series of solutions with diverse surfactant concentrations at different ionic strengths. The objective of…

Kurz, Terri; Jayasuriya, Suren; Swisher, Kimberlee; Mativo, John; Pidaparti, Ramana; Robinson, Dawn T. – Journal of Interactive Learning Research, 2022
Artificial intelligence is impacting society on a very large scale and should be included in K-12 educational content in some capacity to provide meaningful STEM experiences. Computer vision (a field of research that heavily leverages artificial intelligence) was emphasized in professional development for in-service teachers. The teachers received…

Zhang, Xinhong; Zhang, Boyan; Zhang, Fan – International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education, 2023
This study explores a student-centered teaching method in postgraduate courses. Teacher-centered classroom teaching cannot fully stimulate learning initiative and enthusiasm of students. Student-centered means that students actively learn and construct knowledge by participating in teaching activities. This study presents a student-centered…

Anderson, Jeffrey A.; McCusker, Michael V. – PRIMUS, 2019
We present a new learning activity that enables students to apply eigenvalue theory to investigate a practical modeling problem. We demonstrate how to build a spring-coupled pair of pendula and describe how students can measure the movements of these pendula using open-source image processing software. We then illustrate how to analyze this…

Zhdanov, Arsenii; Pyay, Anna – Physics Teacher, 2022
Mobile phones are a widely used platform for educational apps, mobile health, and a variety of chemical tests. Here, we are working on a mobile phone-based physics lab (mPhysics) that uses a mobile phone's capabilities to run simple physics experiments and demonstrations. While a mobile phone can be used to analyze magnetic and optical properties…
