This is the fourth edition of the Clinic Manual for the Dental Hygiene Program at Eugenio Maria de Hostos Community College in the Bronx (New York). It contains general information, grading procedures, performance guides, and clinical forms related to the program. Section 1 provides an introduction to clinic philosophy, policies, goals and objectives regarding services for individuals with disabilities, attendance, professionalism, supplies, sequence of procedures, student and instructor conduct, emergencies, and Spanish language guides. Section 2 reviews grading criteria for the following procedures: (1) medical/dental history; (2) vital signs; (3) extra/intra oral examination/occlusion; (4) hard tissue charting; (5) periodontal charting; (6) gingival assessment; (7) nutritional counseling; (8) patient education; (9) scaling and/or polishing; (10) laceration; (11) treatment plan; (12) pit and fissure sealants; (13) phase-contrast microscopy; (14) radiographic evaluation; (15) topical fluoride application; and (16) patient hygiene performance. Section 3 guides the performance of various clinical procedures, including scheduling, records, medical clearance, vital signs, special medical conditions, oral examination, classification, use of equipment, and patient education. The final section includes clinic forms for patients regarding their assessment, records, medical history update, clearance, requests, evaluations, education, release, treatment plans, and referrals.
