Christel House Academy: The Art and Science of Teaching
Principal Leadership, v13 n9 p20-25 May 2013
Christel House, a public school charter approved through the office of the mayor of Indianapolis, was founded in 2002 and continues to be supported by the children's charity Christel House International. To support the high expectations asked of students, Christel House recognizes the importance of motivating students and providing a program that allows them to learn systematically and efficiently. Collaborative leadership is an essential component of Christel House's success. In 2010, the school adopted the TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement. TAP has four interrelated components that provide a comprehensive system to help teachers improve their instruction and the academic performance of their students: multiple career paths, ongoing applied professional growth, instructionally focused accountability, and performance based compensation. The TAP system and how it has helped the school is described in this article.
