No Such Thing as Balance
Zigler, Ted
Principal Leadership, v7 n8 p30-32 Apr 2007
The demands of the principalship today are keeping good people away. They do not want to deal with the demands on their time, the drive for great test scores, hovering parents, neglectful parents, teachers' needs, and the political hot spot that some schools have become in their communities. They do not see current principals finding balance and enjoying their job. In this article, the author provides suggestions on how principals can cope with the demands of the principalship. They should: (1) embrace the meaning of imbalance; (2) seek meaning, not balance; and (3) enjoy the ride.
