Alexis Pogorelskin, an associate professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth and chair of the History Department, recounts her experience in 2004 after making a controversial comment in her History of the Holocaust and 20th Century Russia class. Her comment was in reference to President Bush making no mention in the 2000 campaign about the determination that he and his closest advisors harbored to invade Iraq, and how Hitler's campaign for the presidency in 1932 did not include mention of the aggression that he intended. Pogorelskin posted editorials from "New York Times," as well as other pieces that were critical of Bush and his policies next to her office door at the university. This article describes students' reactions to the comment, and how Pogorelskin's class and career were affected by the backlash of those in opposition to her statement.
