Health-Related Fitness Models in Physical Education
Houston, Jennifer; Kulinna, Pamela
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v27 n2 p20-26 2014
Physical education has been an integral part of the school curriculum for more than a century. Although the focus has changed over time, the major objective has remained relatively constant: to provide students with the knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and confidence to be physically active throughout their lifetime. As more physical educators are interested in providing students with a curriculum that will develop active and healthy behaviors for life, this article will empower teachers to understand the differences between three health-related fitness models and provide an example of how to combine them into a quality physical education program.
