The Educator's Guide to HyperCard and HyperTalk. A Longwood Professional Book.
Culp, George H.; Watkins, G. Morgan
This book and three accompanying floppy disks introduce HyperCard 2.1 for the Macintosh microcomputer and its programming component, HyperTalk, to educators. The first four chapters introduce the basics of HyperCard, including its structure, which is based on a hierarchy of units; the use of tools and graphics; and ways of linking information using HyperCard's built-in authoring capabilities. The remaining chapters concentrate on introducing HyperTalk commands and scripts (programs) to illustrate what is possible with a knowledge of the language of HyperCard. Stack security, scanning, animation, multimedia techniques, file access, hot text, and presentation methods are introduced in these chapters. Stacks are developed as working examples for the various HyperCard concepts or HyperTalk commands being discussed. Many of these stacks are related to education and include accessing information about students or teacher, the curriculum, and classes; presenting and reviewing instructional concepts; testing and record keeping; and other applications suitable for delivery by the Macintosh microcomputer. The stacks in the books are presented to lay groundwork for development of customized stacks and scripts. The book assumes the fundamentals for using the Macintosh and the mouse. Most of the suggested activities require hands-on use of HyperCard. (Contains 19 references.) (KRN)
