In this colloquy report, European youth unemployment is examined by (1) defining and analyzing the characteristics of youth unemployment and the young unemployed, (2) reviewing government measures and their effects, (3) studying the attitudes of young people in various socio-professional classes, and (4) surveying and analyzing the positions of youth organization members taking part in European Youth Centre colloquies. Appendixes include a resolution containing recommendations on unemployment among young people; a recommendation on the protection of workers against the effects of unemployment; measures taken, envisaged, or to be envisaged (by Organization for Economic Cooperation Development member states) to combat youth unemployment in the short and medium term; a training model for the young unemployed in the Federal Republic of Germany; and a selected bibliography.
