6 Ways to Create Change
Schaffhauser, Dian
Campus Technology, v26 n8 p12-17 Apr 2013
With so many disruptive forces at work in higher education, colleges and universities are faced with the imperative to change not just technologies and processes, but behaviors and mindsets. In part one of a two-part series, change-management experts share six ways to foster large-scale transformations on campus. "Campus Technology" gleaned these six best practices from the experts behind some of the largest, most complex change initiatives taking place in universities today. They are: (1) Make Sure You're Ready; (2) Practice Good Governance; (3) Train People to Accept Change; (4) Outfit a SWAT Team of Change Facilitators; (5) Let People Vent; and (6) Change the Lens. The point is to encourage people to look at things from the perspective of the stakeholder who will most be impacted by the "positive" aspects of the change. Frequently, the ultimate recipients of a university transformation are students. On some level, they are the ones who will eventually receive improved services, a better education, or an enhanced experience.
