Gravity is the name given to the phenomenon that any two masses, like you and the Earth, attract each other. One pulls on the Earth and the Earth pulls on one the same amount. And one does not have to be touching. Gravity acts over vast distances, like the 150 million kilometers (93 million miles) between the Earth and the Sun or the billions of kilometers between galaxies. It causes the Moon's path to bend into nearly a circle around the Earth and holds the Space Shuttle in orbit.
