Educating for Justice: Creating a Mission-Driven Model of Bystander Intervention to Address Sexual Violence at U.S. Catholic Colleges and Universities
Galarneau, Joy; O'Neill, Shannon
Journal of Catholic Higher Education, v34 n2 p257-279 Sum 2015
This article presents bystander intervention education as a best-practice approach to sexual violence prevention in college settings. It draws out a connection between mission-specific resources that can be used to advance the prevention agenda, while examining how bystander intervention education can deepen community engagement in collegiate mission. The authors contend that Catholic colleges and universities have a unique opportunity to bring bystander intervention education and Catholic Social Teaching together so as to strengthen both pedagogical models and build a community free of sexual violence.
