Distribution of Grades, Credits Earned Ratios, Course Completion Ratios and Current Grade Point Ratios, University of Hawaii Community Colleges, Fall 1998.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Office of the Chancellor for Community Colleges.
This document summarizes fall 1998 data on student achievement at the University of Hawaii's seven community colleges along two dimensions: the current grade point ratios earned by students, by program; and the distribution of grades in the courses offered by the colleges. Data are presented for the system and for each individual college. The data include the grades given to and earned by all students registered for credit courses. The data are presented in five tables: (1) distribution of grades; (2) average grades assigned; (3) credits earned ratios; (4) course completion ratios; and (5) current GPRs by major and educational objective. Major findings are briefly summarized, including the following: (1) slightly less than half (49.4 percent) of the grades are "A's" and "B's"; (2) the average grade for all campuses is 2.7; (3) the credits earned ratios range from 66.7 percent (natural sciences courses) to 89.6 percent (food service and hospitality education courses); (4) the course completion ratio is 90.9 percent and ranges from 94.3% for vocational courses to 89.6% for general education courses; (5) and the current average GPR of community colleges students is 2.69, with vocational education majors earning higher GPRs (2.79) than liberal arts majors (2.59).
