Creative Strategies in Difficult Times
Lucas, Susann
Community College Journal, v73 n5 p44-46, 48-49 Apr-May 2003
It is a frequent, if not ongoing, problem: deep funding cuts despite increased enrollments, and accompanying need for more instructors and updated technology. According to Joe Barwick, Roy Flores, Bernadine Chuck Fong, Al Lorenzo, Judith Redwine, and Jerry Sue Thornton, community colleges should start at the top when they deal with institutional problems. These six current and former community college CEOs understand the needs, the hopes, and the dreams of their respective institutions, and they all agree that resource development is a key component of their job description. This article presents the insights shared by these CEOs in how they led their institutions during difficult times and served their local communities.
