Audiovisual Education at the Local Level: Chiba Prefecture. AVE in Japan No. 28.
Japan Audio-Visual Education Association, Tokyo.
This collection of three essays examines the use of audiovisual instruction in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo. In the first example, a closed circuit video system combined with overhead projectors was used to increase student motivation in a junior high school. In the second example, films, radio, television, slides, and videotaped materials were used in a series of community-based educational programs designed for citizens of all ages. Subjects offered ranged from dealing with adolescent children to the history of women to regional folklore. In the third example, an audiovisual center designed to promote and provide audiovisual education materials is discussed. The center provides ready access to these materials to citizen's groups and children's clubs, prepares and distributes an instructional materials catalog, provides learning opportunities for the general public, trains teachers and social organization leaders on how to use audiovisual equipment, and acquires new instructional materials. The three projects offering "localization" of school, social, and adult education have been recognized by the Japan Audiovisual Education Association for the effort. (DB)
