This study guide is designed to accompany the American National Red Cross texts ADVANCED FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY CARE and STANDARD FIRST AID AND PERSONAL SAFETY. Part one serves as an introduction to first aid. The legal aspects of first aid are discussed along with a list of suggested first aid kit contents, and information on first aid books is included. Also found in part one are questions and charts on vital signs, a psychological first aid chart, and information on death with which a first aider may have to cope. The eighteen chapters in part two correspond directly to the eighteen chapters in ADVANCED FIRST AID and EMERGENCY CARE. Each of the chapters contains study guide questions, a self-test, and a list of terms. A page number referring to the Red Cross text allows students to check their answers. Included also in part two are knowledge tests, a self-evaluation form, and several first aid situations presented as opportunities for problem solving. (Author/JD)
