Perceptions of High School FCS Programs: A Case Study of School Counselors in Iowa
Betz, Valarie L.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v102 n2 p14-22 2010
While family and consumer sciences (FCS) programs in secondary schools may be in jeopardy and, simultaneously, with the public outcry to improve essential skills for independent living, this study reaffirms the critical role school counselors play in assisting students in their high school course selections and, ultimately, their career choices. This descriptive case study explored counselors' perceptions and presents a broad contextual picture for understanding their information sources, motivations, and expectations related to the FCS programs in their schools.
