A survey of 1,074 students and 77 faculty members at Los Angeles City College (LACC), as well as 5,710 students and 505 teachers districtwide, was conducted in classes meeting on July 10, 1979, to obtain reactions to the 1979 summer session "four-day" schedule, i.e., courses were scheduled only Monday through Thursday. The student questionnaire solicited information on enrollment and attendance patterns, number and type of courses currently attending, number of days in attendance, scheduling preferences, employment, and transportation. Faculty members were asked about course load, number of days on campus, if courses were day or evening, lecture or lab, and scheduling preferences. The findings indicated that over 80% of the faculty and about 70% of the students at LACC preferred the four-day schedule to any other, and that those who indicated a preference for a change would schedule fewer days and less hours. LACC and districtwide preferences showed little difference despite the fact that the LACC group included a greater percentage of day students (72% vs. 62%) and of students that used the bus (31% vs. 18%), and a smaller percentage of students that drove their own cars (56% vs. 69%).
