Grammaire francaise pour etudiants americains (French Grammar for American Students): Workbook and Answers.
Giauque, Gerald S.
This workbook in French grammar, intended for American college students, provides instruction and practice in French morphology, syntax, vocabulary, punctuation, and language style at the intermediate level. It is also designed to increase or reinforce the students' understanding of English grammar, based on the assumption that American students of French have little concrete knowledge of the grammar of their native language. The workbook is divided into sections addressing syllable structure, orthographic symbols, punctuation, common errors, masculine and feminine, verb classes and forms, articles, adjectives, pronouns, phrase analysis, the vocabulary of grammar, finding a good dictionary, contractions, prepositions, pronominal verbs, verb complements, nouns as adjectives, distinguishing between similar verbs, the impersonal pronoun "on", inversion, adverbs, negation, the passive voice, the subjunctive mood, modals, obligation and probability, incomplete phrases, and points of usage for these form classes. Each section contains exercises including pattern drills, translation, sentence construction, and identification and use of French forms. An answer section is located at the end of the workbook.
