This article reviews the status of employment for people with mental retardation. It considers effects relating to changes in the evolution of the workplace and in the Social Security Supplemental Security Income program. It then discusses emerging practices including use of natural supports, development of personal networks, and use of an ecological approach to match employee with job. (Contains references.)
