Workshop and seminar summaries and abstracts of papers from the twelfth international conference on improving university teaching are presented. Theme presentation and seminar topics are: distance education; ways that associations improve university teaching; corporate, labor, university partnerships; and teaching part-time students. Workshop themes include: designing effective workshops; peer teaching consultants and a collegial approach to improving university teaching; using small group instructional strategies to improve university teaching; instructional development for the inclusion of women's studies in the existing curriculum; problem-solving techniques; shyness in the collge classroom and problem identification and intervention; improving multiple choice test items; unfolding, reflecting, and developing values; mastering distance education through a learner-centered approach for faculty; designing short term educational programs using temporary systems concepts; team building and organizational development in an academic department; a workshop for academic administrators to encourage faculty performance; and expanding the traditional course syllabus.
