This article compares and contrasts active learning and passive learning. The author describes passive learning as being dependent on a teacher imparting what is to be learned, with little student involvement. Active learning, on the other hand, is a process where students take a dynamic and energetic role in their own education, thereby making the student a partner in the learning process. The author concludes that active learning is preferable, as it stimulates pride, increases confidence, stimulates a thirst for broader and deeper understanding in future academic endeavors, and tends to make learning more fun and personally satisfying.
