Le Poire, Beth A.; Burgoon, Judee K.
Communication Monographs, v63 n3 p208-30 Sep 1996
States that arousal has become a central variable within much of communication research from deception to emotional communication. Describes a two-part study that explored the application of the "orienting response" to these interpersonal communication theories explaining violations of expectancies. Concludes that the orientation response did manifest itself in decreases in heart rate. (PA)
