Contextual Differences in Parent-Child Play: Implications for Children's Gender Role Development.
Lindsey, Eric W.; Mize, Jacquelyn
Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, v44 n3-4 p155-76 Feb 2001
Videotaped parent-child play behaviors of preschool children in pretend and physical play sessions, noting children's play with same-sex peers. Context influenced gender differentiated patterns of parent-child play behavior. Girls engaged in more pretend play, and boys were engaged in more physical play with peers. Parents contributed to children's gender-typed play behavior with peers. Contains tables and references.(SM)
