High Tech, High Touch: An Innovative Approach to Professional Development for CDA Candidates
Whitehead, Linda C.; Rudick, Sherrie; South, Kathy
Young Children, v66 n3 p48-50, 52 May 2011
As barriers to online learning, such as lack of access to high-speed Internet connections, disappear, online learning opportunities are likely to become more and more available to early childhood educators. The eCDA program provides an individualized approach to training and support for earning the Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, while simultaneously offering training to those who might otherwise not have access. A high-tech, high-touch approach that combines engaging, authentic content via the Internet, a virtually-connected community of learners led by a skilled facilitator, and job-embedded practical application activities, is an effective strategy for the early childhood workforce. Anecdotal reports from teachers and program directors say that those earning their credentials through this approach were able to strengthen both their knowledge and their implementation of high-quality early childhood practices.
