Opportunity, Community, and Early Adolescent Pregnancy: A Replication of Research with Older Teenaged Girls.
Bickel, Robert; McDonough, Meghan; Williams, Tony
Educational Foundations, v13 n2 p47-72 Spr 1999
Attempts to broaden the analytic categories for understanding early-adolescent pregnancy, suggesting an antidote to the methodological individualism that emphasizes individual and family characteristics by using broader contextual factors. Seemingly imprudent behaviors can be rendered interpretably rational when placed in social context. Without opportunity and community, early-adolescent pregnancy becomes commonplace, and conventional teen-pregnancy programs may not be helpful. (SM)
