This book contains a collection of "model" poems by adults and by children and ways to use the poems in children's poetry writing workshops and activities. After an introduction to the text and its subject matter, several chapters discuss ways to write poems, focusing on acrostics, the sound or shape of a poem, poems from memories or dreams, persona poems, longer poems for older students, and other approaches. As part of each chapter, a list of poems from the anthology section suggests specific works that children can examine in preparation for their own writing. The anthology section of the book is divided into poems by adults and poems by children. Three indexes list the adult poems by author and title, the children's poems by grades, and all the poems by subject. (RL)
