Population Density and Social Pathology: The Case of Building Type, Social Allowance and Juvenile Delinquency
Gillis, A. R.
Social Forces, 53, 2, 306-314, Dec 74
Using Canadian census tract data, the relationship between population density and social pathology is explored. When effects of income and national origin have been removed building type is found to be a significant predictor of variation in social allowance and delinquency. It is argued that the number of individuals per unit space is less appropriate for humans than building type as a correlate of patterns that have been considered socially "pathological." (Author/EH)
