Learning Economics: Empowering Women for Action. Facilitator's Guide and Participant Packet.
Religious Network for Equality for Women, New York, NY.
This facilitator's guide and participant packet were designed to teach women how the U.S. economic system works and were developed by a coalition of more than 40 national religious groups working toward economic justice for women. The facilitator's guide consists of a section explaining the coalition, a section on the development of the materials as part of the Economic Literacy Project, an introduction to the materials, directions for conducting six instructional sessions, and a chart labelled Facilitator's Sample Structure. The titles of the sessions are Making Connections with Ourselves as Economic Persons; Reflecting on Women and Work: Paid and Unpaid Labor; Reflecting on Women and Work: The International Economy; Making the Economic Linkages; Connecting Our Values and the Economic Reality of Women; and Social Action: Determining Your Own Action Possibilities. The directions for how to conduct each session include goals, advance preparation, required materials, instructional activities, and evaluation activities. The participant's packet consists of a section explaining the coalition; a section on the development of the materials as part of the Economic Literacy Project; an introduction; guides to the six sessions; three modules of reading material called Where Does Income Come From?, How Does the Labor Market Work?, and Why Don't We Have Full Employment?; a glossary; worksheets for the sessions; a 25-item annotated bibliography that includes videotapes and music as well as printed materials; and an evaluation form.
